Ancient Amador

The Kennedy Gold Mine Speakers Series will present “Ancient Amador: An Inside Look at the Mokelumne Fossil Site” on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the Kennedy Mine Change House in Jackson.
Guest speaker Greg Francek, a Ranger/Naturalist with the East Bay Municipal Utility District, will share the story of fossil discoveries made in the Mokelumne watershed. The presentation will explore prehistoric animals that once lived in the region, including camels, rhinos, ancestral elephants, and bone-crushing dogs, as well as several species that may be new to science. Francek will also share some recently recovered fossil specimens.
